Dear Graduate School Community,
President Freeman Hrabowski will take time to talk with graduate students this Wednesday, April 4, 2012. The MyUMBC announcement can be found using this link: http://my.umbc.edu/groups/promise/events/11180, please RSVP. Dr. Hrabowski will be coming to this event after the Presidential Faculty & Staff Awards Ceremony which will end around 1 PM. Our event be held in the Gallery on the first floor of the AOK Library. Please come at 1PM to get your lunch, get settled, and hear some preliminary announcements. Dr. Hrabowski will be leaving the UC Ballroom to come over to our program in the library. He will begin his talk as soon as he arrives.
This event is open to all graduate students, from all backgrounds, and all disciplines. The event is open to part-time, full-time, and certificate students. Faculty, postdocs, staff, and alumni, are welcome to attend. Dr. Hrabowski annually discusses his own journey through graduate school, his path to the presidency, information about graduate education from national and international perspectives, and the value of having a degree from UMBC with respect to your preparation for the workforce. However, his primary purpose for coming to talk with you is to provide encouragement as you pursue your degree goals at UMBC. We’ve learned that UMBC is unique in this regard because the president of the university is taking time out of a very busy schedule to talk with graduate students; this doesn’t always happen at other universities where access to the president is limited. Please take advantage of this opportunity. Come on out, have some lunch (free), connect with your peers across campus, and hear some encouraging words from the president.
Dr. Hrabowski’s talk on April 4th celebrates graduate students! April 2-6, 2012 is National Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week, and UMBC’s Graduate Student Association (GSA) will celebrate “Graduate Student Week” April 9-13 with a number of activities and gifts including zumba, poetry & sushi lunch, cookout, games, and tee-shirts, and more! See http://my.umbc.edu/groups/promise/events/11369 to download their flyer. Please RSVP for Dr. Hrabowski’s “Graduate Student Lunch” here: http://my.umbc.edu/groups/promise/events/11180. UMBC appreciates graduate students!
Best regards,
Renetta Tull
