Deans, Faculty, Postdocs, and Mentors-in-Residence are invited to participate in this session (for Ph.D.s only) to discuss career choices and next steps, life/work balance, unwritten rules, and more!

Facilitator: Dr. Janet C. Rutledge, Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education.  Prior to coming to UMBC, Dr. Rutledge was a Program Director at the National Science Foundation and a professor at Northwestern University.  Dr. Rutledge is on the Board of Trustees for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Lead PROMISE Peer Mentor Hosts: Frances Carter (Public Policy) and Samuel Haile (Biology)

Students will carpool from UMBC after the SSI.  Peer Mentors and students from each campus will assist with transporting students from their respective areas.   Participants are encouraged to bring a change of clothing.  Restrooms in the Public Policy Building will be available for changing into comfortable, outdoor clothes.  Upon arrival to Columbia, food can be purchased at the Columbia Mall Food Court or in restaurants on the Columbia Lakefront. Eating options and other activities will be decided by the group.
