In Dissertation Completion, Grad Student Success Seminar, Graduate Student Professional Development, PROMISE: Maryland's AGEP on January 31, 2012 at 11:22 AM

Students who participate in PROMISE from UMBC, UM College Park, and UMB have been trained by Barrett Whitener since 2004.  Barrett Whitener specializes in oral and poster presentations. He is a voice-over actor (you’ve heard his books on many books-on-tape) who has narrated more than 200 audio books.  He has done commercials for organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Boeing Company, and others, and he is the winner of  a “Voice of the Century” award.

He spends 20% of his time teaching public speaking to professionals. He has used his expertise in speaking, timing, and confident tone to train for postdocs at the NIH,  companies in the biotech corridor on Maryland, graduate students at national conferences, corporate professionals, and graduate students of PROMISE.  He is also co-author of the book: Speaking About Science: A Manual for Clear Presentations, which can be found on Amazon and in the UMBC bookstore.

Barrett Whitener returns to UMBC on February 15, 2012 to give the Graduate Student Success Seminar.  All graduate students are invited (from all schools). Students who are from UMBC are asked to RSVP via the MyUMBC intranet link for this program. Students from other universities can RSVP as a comment to this post. Last year, he presented to PROMISE on College Park’s campus; this year, he’ll be at UMBC. Please plan to attend. Lunch will be served.
