Summer Horizons Graduate School Preparation Program: July 20

In Graduate School Admissions, Horizons, PROMISE: Maryland's AGEP on July 8, 2011 at 8:23 AM

Repost from: http://summerhorizons.wordpress.com/, July 8, 2011

———————————————————————————–

Dear Summer Program Directors and Future Graduate Students:

We would like to invite you and your summer students to our 2011 Summer Horizons program. Summer Horizons will feature information about the graduate school admissions process (e.g., Statement of Purpose, Letters of Recommendation, the new GRE), a graduate student panel, and a motivational talk by UMBC’s President, Dr. Freeman Hrabowski.  Our 1-day program will be held on Wednesday, July 20 in the Meyerhoff Chemistry Conference Room 120, on UMBC’s Campus, from 9:30 AM until 1:00 PM. Continental breakfast will be served at 8:15 AM, and a light lunch will be served at 1:15 PM. Our focus will be admission to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) M.S., Ph.D., and M.D./Ph.D. Programs. We have information from schools across the nation regarding entry to graduate programs in these disciplines.

Summer Horizons is free of charge. It is co-sponsored by the Meyerhoff Graduate Fellows Program (a program of the National Institutes of Health) and the PROMISE AGEP (a program of the National Science Foundation.)  Space is limited, but we want to accommodate interested students.  Please register on the Summer Horizons website (http://summerhorizons.wordpress.com/) and state your program and the number of students that you will bring. You may also encourage your students to apply directly.  If students are interested in a lab tour or meeting with faculty, please let us know and we will connect you with the relevant academic department. We hope that some of your students will be able to join us.

Best regards,

Renetta Tull, Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Development at UMBC and Director of PROMISE: Maryland’s Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP)

Justine Johnson, Associate Director of the Meyerhoff Graduate Fellows Program
