Dear Graduate Students,
We have a wonderful history of providing training for students who are going to be presenting research for conferences, proposals, and defenses. Please join us on Friday, 1/21 for famous Voice-over Artist and Vocal Trainer Barrett Whitener’s critiques and advice for graduate level presentations. Whitener, known for his voice on Random House Audio Books, commercials, and public television, has been contracted by programs at NIH, NSF, and corporate entities to provide training for public speaking. We met him at a conference at Georgia Tech in 2003, and since then, he has partnered with PROMISE and has helped our students to prepare for national and international talks. Several of the students that he has advised through PROMISE over the years have since finished their Ph.D.s and are now in postdocs, faculty, and other professional positions.

Barrett Whitener’s participation in this event is an extra treat for all who attend. You do not have to be a presenter to learn from his advice. His book, “Speaking about Science: A Manuel for Creating Clear Presentations” is on sale at Amazon and on the ground floor of the UMBC Bookstore. His advice is relevant to grad students in all fields: STEM, Education, Social Sciences, and Humanities.
Please register to attend this free event. Food will be served. A bus will leave UMBC’s campus at 8AM on Friday morning, and will leave College Park at 5:00 to return to Baltimore. Students, faculty, postdocs, and staff from all campuses who live in the Baltimore area are welcome to take the bus. There is no charge for transportation.
